DESCRIPTION:The pandemic has had an unprecedented impact on Placement. Yet\, with these challenges come unique opportunities to creatively examine alternative ways to meet learning outcomes. This means that faculty may need to rework or rethink their placement course design and outreach strategies and consider alternatives to traditional in-person placements. \nJoin us for a virtual round table discussion on Alternatives to Placements in MS Teams.  \nThis is not an instructional workshop. The purpose is to support faculty who are finding it difficult to develop alternatives to placement in their program. The discussion and brainstorming process may perhaps lead to collaboration between programs on a placement project or WIL. \nWe encourage faculty that have developed new opportunities for their fall 2020 placement course to attend a session and share your experiences with other faculty. DESCRIPTION:Title: Liquid Syllabus: The First Step to Making a Connection and Reducing Student Anxiety \n“Online students often feel isolated\, which may decrease motivation and increase attrition. When learning occurs entirely through computer-mediated instruction\, an important part of the instructor’s role is ensuring the learning environment is “people focused” or humanized” (http://page.teachingwithoutwalls.com/cihumanize) \nIn this new world of education that we now find ourselves in due to COVID-19\, our students are more nervous than ever about starting a new school year. Many students would not have chosen to learn remotely/online but are now having to which is adding to the anxiety. \nThis session will show how three college faculty members implemented a liquid syllabus to help reduce the student anxiety and promote student success. We will share what a liquid syllabus is and how it supports student success. Three examples that were used for Fall 2020 will be shown\, challenges and workarounds discussed and the feedback from the students will be shared. \nParticipants will receive links to sites/resources on how to get started on their own liquid syllabus. \nWorkshop Learning Outcomes\nThe attendees will\n\nDiscuss the benefits and challenges of using a liquid syllabus\nAnalyze real time live examples from Fall2020 classes\nHear what the students had to say about the experience\nLearn how to get started with a resource starter kit\n\n  \nClick here to register.
